The lowdown on Los #3 Dinners

Los #3 Dinners are a mainstay of San Antonio’s diverse music scene. The story begins in 1979 with the band's first incarnation, Los #2 Dinners. After years of pounding the SA club scene, The Dinners called it quits in order to pursue personal interests in the early 1990s. Shortly after, band leader “Lenny” Eric Friedland, guitarist Frank Karpienski, bassist Bart Nichols, and blues musician/childhood friend Joe Shortt formed the short-lived blues band "The Pralines." As word of the Pralines spread around town, a renewed interest in the old #2 Dinners material emerged. In 1995, The Prailines changed their name to Los #3 Dinners after the addition of drummer Jake Perales. Thus, Los #3 Dinners was born!

The sound of Los Number #3 Dinners is a high-energy mix of guitar-driven garage rock, South Texas soul, surf-instrumental, and the blues. The Dinners sound fits any venue... from the urban jungle of Tacoland, to the family-oriented atmosphere of The Cove, to the chicken-fried soul of Casbeer's, to a good ol' houseparty... they've played them all. The Dinners are constantly shaping and tightening their sound while playing the songs that have been rocking San Antonio for nearly three decades. That's right San Antonio, baby! This ain’t no Austin band...todo  S.A. vato to the max. These guys are busy playing the soundtrack to your weekend.

So now that you know, get off your ass! It's time to maraca and roll!

LENNY “ERIC” FRIEDLAND
- guitar / vocals / muleskinner

A native San Antonian, Lenny is the public face of the Dinners. Whether he's performing onstage, hangin' at the dragstrip, or surfing at South Padre, Lenny is always calm and cool.

LIKES: vintage guitars, kung fu movies, out-of-court settlements.

“PHANTOM” FRANK KARPIENSKI - electric guitar / whammy bar / cigar specialist

Frank's guitar is an unholy force of nature. His lyrical guitar sound combines electric blues, surf twang, and soul. Opting to play shoeless, Frank appears stoic onstage. Is he channeling Jimi Hendrix? Charlie Christian? Keith Richards? See him play and judge for yourself!

LIKES: cold Budweiser, new strings, student progress reports (retired)

“SURFER” JOE SHORTT - vocals / acoustic & electric guitars, harmonica / percussion / Cheat

Much like Batman's utility belt, Joe's versatility knows no bounds. His voice is pure 60s soul... his harp playing is the stuff of legend. When not working his ass off in his hot rod shop, Joe waxes up the longboard and heads to the beach for escape.

LIKES: Beatle boots, twin pipes, and flamejobs

“DOCTOR” BART NICHOLS - bass / dental drill / Swindlero

Bart is hands-down the single best bass player in San Antone! He provides the fluid, low-end rhythm that's known to whip up a frenzy at the Dinners' shows. Voted by us the World’s greatest bassist!

LIKES: Fender basses, fine art, flossing

RUDY SANCHEZ - vocals / bass / percussion / hip shakin'

Rudy is the #3 Dinners' "Ambassador of Good Vibes." Rudy's ability to summon beautiful women to the dance floor is uncanny. We dare you to try to catch him in a bad mood! Rudy can shake the maraca, thump a bass, strum a guitar, or belt out a rockin' vocal with ease.

LIKES: good crowds, new maracas, and smilin' faces

“RATTLESNAKE” JAKE PERALES - drums / beat driver / fire-eater

Jake is the living incarnation of Buddy Rich and Keith Moon. Don't believe us?! Well obviously you've never been to a #3 Dinners show at Tacoland (Don't make us tell Ram... who know what he'd say!). Jake provides more than the backbeat of the Dinners' sound, he's the center of the band's rhythmic assault.

LIKES: Nitro, a smooth idle, new drumheads, San Antonio Spurs
